
In 1963, before the Royal Command
Performance, John threatened to tell the audience, which included the Queen
to "rattle their "f---" jewelry. Brian Epstein, their manager was a nervous
wreck until John made a much tamer comment before he sang "Twist and Shout".
Ed Sullivan paid only an average of $3300 per
performance in 1963, about half of the going rate for a top act.
In March of '63, The Beatles performed 4 times
without John who had a cold and laryngitis.
At Linda's Memorial services
in London and in New York, Paul had guests greeted by a lone bagpiper
playing
Mull of Kintyre. It was one of Linda's favorites, expressing her
great love for the countryside of Scotland.
The Beatles went to see the Rolling Stones play
for the first time at the Crawdaddy Club in Richmond-Upon-Thames. They
became great friends.
Paul met Jane Asher, his one-time fiance on Thur.,
Ap. 18, 1963 after the band had just played "From Me to You". Jane was
there as a model and posed as though she were screaming at the group during
this BBC broadcast from the Royal Albert Hall in London.
When John and Paul first met, John was impressed
by the fact that Paul could tune a guitar himself. John and his band had
been paying someone to do that. He also was impressed that Paul knew the
words to Be-Bop-A-Lula and Twenty Flight Rock. John got Paul to write down
all the words that day for him.
John, Paul, and George, using the name Johnny
and the Moondogs entered a singing contest but had to leave before the
winner was announced because they didn't have the money to stay overnight,
and they had to catch the last train back to Liverpool.
George Harrison's part time job when he was beginning
to play music with John and Paul was delivering meat for the local butcher.
The first publicity photos of The Beatles were
made by Dezo Hoffman in response to several fans who wrote him and begged
him to photograph them because Liverpool groups never got any attention
in the newspaper.
In the famous first set of publicity photos,
a pile of instruments is between the camera and The Beatles to help camouflage
George's black eye. He received it when he was attacked by Pete Best's
fans. They were upset because Pete had been replaced by Ringo.

John was taught to play the guitar by his mother,
Julia, who played the banjo. Consequently he at first played the guitar

friend, Ivan Vaughn whose wife, Janet, taught French at a London school.
It was Janet who suggeseted the french words Paul uses in the song, Michelle.
When Ringo joined the group, replacing Pete Best,
he had a gray streak in his hair, which Brian Epstein had him dye.
Paul wrote the song, When I'm 64 when he was
15 years old, but he waited until his Dad was 64 to record it in his honor.
Even afater Ringo achieved fame, Ringo's parents
lived in the Dingle, a very poor section of Liverpool because they said
they liked their neighbors so much.
When George married Patti Boyd, a successful
model, he insisted that she quit work because people might use her to have
power over him.
Grapes was the popular watering hole for the
Beatles and their peers in Liverpool. Alcohol could not be served in the
Cavern club where they frequently performed.
While still in the Beatles, John Lennon sang
with the Dirty Mac band for the film, The Rolling Stones' Rock and Roll
Circus.

Paul.

In the movie, Jerry McGuire, Paul McCartney's
song, Sing Along Junk, is featured during one of the love scenes.
The Beatles rejected a screenplay written for
them after Help! because they would have to portray homosexuals.
John broke up Paul's 21st birthday party at his
auntie Gin's by having a fight with Bob Wooler, a local compere.
The only drum solo recorded by Ringo while he
was in The Beatles was in the song The End from the album Abbey
Road
